Our government has made major improvements for parental benefits, giving you more time with your baby. The changes provide extra flexibility and encourage Canadians to share more equally in the work and joy of raising kids.
You can now get 5 extra weeks of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits when both parents share parental leave together. This includes adoptive and same-sex parents. Called the Parental Sharing Benefit, it came into effect in March 2019.
