The announcement was made earlier this week by Calgary MP Kent Hehr on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna, and Lethbridge West MLA, and Provincial Minister of Environment and Parks, Shannon Phillips.
The funding is a component of the Low Carbon Economy Fund, which is designed to spur clean growth, and cut carbon pollution while promoting innovative climate solutions.
By building on provincial and territorial leadership, the federal government is banking on the Low Carbon Economy Fund helping Canada meet the commitment under the Paris Agreement, and their own 2030 national climate target.
Alberta is eligible for the funding as a signatory to the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.
Specifically, the federal government will work with the province to focus on helping Albertans use less energy and save money through energy efficiency retrofits.
