Are you a small business owner or running a not-for-profit?
Do you need some extra boots on the ground during the summer of 2017 – Canada’s 150th anniversary year? Why not join thousands of other employers and hire a summer student with the help of funding from the Government of Canada?
The deadline to apply for support has been extended to February 3. As a small business owner or public sector employer, you can receive 50% of your summer student’s hourly wage; as a not-for-profit employer, you can get 100%, plus employment-related costs. You’ll be able to start students in their summer jobs as early as April.
Canada’s youth are leaders today, and an important and influential voice within our community. When you hire them with support from Canada Summer Jobs, you’re not just helping them get valuable work experience – you’re helping grow our local economy.
What’s more, you can help play a role supporting local and national priorities. We’re encouraging employers to come forward with applications that support and complement priorities including:
- small businesses working to become more innovative, competitive and successful, in recognition of their key contribution to the creation of new jobs;
- employers involved in the welcome and settlement of immigrants (including Syrian refugees) in Canada;
- employers that hire Indigenous people;
- opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information, and Communications Technology (ICT) sectors; and
- employers involved in activities celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.
As your Member of Parliament, I want to ensure as many young people as possible in our community have the opportunity to get work experience this summer.
