Our government’s new Accessible Canada Act is the most significant piece of legislation for the rights of persons with disabilities in 30 years. And it has now received unanimous support in the House of Commons.
For the 14% of people who have a disability, including many seniors, the Act makes an important difference in their daily lives.
It ensures that federally regulated buildings and programs are accessible, including government departments and services, banks, airports, Crown corporations and more.
It opens up job opportunities for people with disabilities.
It reduces discrimination, and increases fairness.
It’s the right thing to do, and I am proud to have been a part of it.
